TO VALENTINES OR NOT TO VALENTINES? THAT IS THE QUESTION
It's that time of year again when you must decide if you’re going to succumb to the evil consumerism and partake in the Valentine’s Day hype. I get it. You’re torn between:
Not buying into the commercialisation of yet another saint for the retail industries gain.
Putting your significant other into a good mood and increasing your chances of getting some Feb 14th action!
I can understand the dilemma, which is weird to say when I am actively trying to flog Valentine’s Day cards. But, prior to Jolly Ginger Cards, I could often be found harping on about “the over commercialisation by the greetings card industry for their own gain”. I used to bore myself! However, it’s worth noting I still always used to buy a valentine’s card though!
That said, my viewpoint has changed, and I now see it for what it really is. The greetings card manufacturers are not evil money stealing bandits trying to rob the shirt off your back. They are just people trying to make a living out of making people smile – There are a lot worse companies out there.
IT'S IN OUR BLOOD
Greeting cards are ingrained in British society, it’s part of our culture. From an early age we wouldn’t dream of turning up to a birthday party without a carefully chosen birthday card and that’s still the same today in our adult lives. All us greeting card dudes are trying to do is provide you with a vehicle to continue this tradition and express how you feel.
So, don’t overthink it. Embrace your heritage and support all greetings card occasions – even the dreaded Valentine’s Day. I know you don’t need to wait until Valentine’s Day to express how you feel about your partner and you can show them love all year round, but that doesn’t mean you need to exclude February 14th.
